Swimming…and other Summer Fun

Kaylee got her first pair of arm floaties the other day…and boy did she love them. She paddled around the pool by herself like she was a little fishy. At least almost. Our little fishy did prefer to be very close to one of us, which I was happy to oblige. (It was actually one of my rules as she really is only 2!) Anyway, she had the time of her life until she started to get too tired and cold. She was swimming around, blue lips, chattering teeth, and it was time to get out and eat some watermelon.

Unfortunately I'm not so witty tonight, so hopefully these pictures will suffice until a later time.

MIA

I'm pretty sure my blogging absence would constitute a MIA label. I've actually sat down several times, started a post, and realized I either couldn't get out what I was trying to say, or didn't actually have anything to say.

The days around here have been going really well. Nothing spectacular, just good days in the sun or the kids playing around the house while I work.

This morning a friend and I and the kids headed out early to some yard sales. I was hoping to find more good deals, but didn't end up finding much at all. By the time we got home the kids and I were tired. Once they woke up from their naps, I fed them and we packed up a laundry basket full of blankets for the ground, toys, water, crackers, camera, extra diapers, wipes, sanitizer in case nasty bird doo doo was on anything, and we headed out. To our backyard. Yes, I know, by the sounds of what I was packing we could have very well been heading out for a month. To Outer Mongolia. But really, it's no small feat to get both kids slathered up in sun screen goo and get outside by myself.

We have one of those kiddy pools, so even though our yard is secured like a quasi-Fort Knox, going inside for even a moment without the kids is not an option. So I have to prepare…for the entire 30 or 40 minutes we spent out there. I had in mind staying out for hours. Logan, however, decided it was hot and he had other plans…another nap. So in we went, basket and all.

I took some pictures which I will add later…

I think tonight we might have an inside picnic (because we currently have 4 dogs outside…you can fill in the blank what a picnic with a 2-year old, 9-month old, and 4 hungry dogs would look like) and stay up late(r) playing and having fun since both the kids took a second nap. (Yeah, that hardly ever happens with Kaylee, must have been the sun!)

So I'm off to get the picnic blanket out and see what else I can scrimmage…that is, until one of the kids changes my plans. ;)

I'm Here

I made it through surgery. Praise the Lord it all went smoothly and as well as it could have. I had a hard time shaking off the anesthesia effects yesterday, but today is much better. I ended up sleeping over 15 hours. Adam kept thinking that I would nap a little and then be more with it, but that didn't come until about 3am when I woke up to pump! I have a little more pain today, but it's not horrible. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support!!

Next…Liz nominated me to list 7 personality traits about myself, so here goes. If some of them aren't really personality traits I put full blame on the medicine. *wink*

  1. Being a wife and mom are my two favorite things on earth. I do enjoy getting out from time to time, but am completely satisfied staying here at home or going somewhere with the family.
  2. It bugs me when my toenail polish chips off. I have to have my toenails polished all.the.time. (in the summer, at least)
  3. I used to let people walk all over me, even if it meant getting my feelings hurt. I'm starting to grow a spine.
  4. I love wearing jewelry and perfume. I rarely leave the house without them.
  5. I think the sound of my children laughing and singing is one of the best things ever. I really could listen to it all day. (Except during nap time…I prefer it quiet then, for obvious reasons.)
  6. Unless I'm working out I don't like to sweat…it can make me cranky. (weird, I know.)
  7. I love email, blogs, and facebook, but it makes my day even more to get things snail mail!

Okay, so now it's up to you to do one…I'll nominate a few, but if you read this blog and want to do this just leave a comment!

Terisa, Carla and Brittany you're tagged!

T-O-E-S

I attempted this post earlier and for some reason blogger was not able to connect and accept the post…Word didn't want to save, so here we go for round two.

I have surgery tomorrow, so it's going to be a short one. I hope to take some time to catch up on stuff during the week…both reading and writing.

When we were walking out of church on Sunday, Kaylee was spelling something. At first I didn't really pay attention, but then I realized she was spelling a real word: T-O-E-S…over and over and over. She was also digging her T-O-E-S into Adam as he was carrying her. She may or may not have really known what she was spelling.

I asked her to spell it again and she did. Now…the funny thing is that no one taught her how to spell this. So, if any of you out there have been doing spelling lessons with Kaylee, keep it up…just remember SHE remembers everything. I mean everything. No…seriously nothing escapes that child. I've tried to not be surprised anymore when she says or does new things, but that's honestly not possible.

Huh?

You know when you are given a medication or have a procedure done and the doctor goes over all of the 547 different side effects/things that can go wrong? They tell you those things are rare and most likely everything will be fine. Fine, right? Mkay, I'll go ahead with it. Well, this week I learned that I was one of the rare 1 in thousands who has one of those complications. It was totally unexpected and totally God that we even found it because I wasn't having symptoms of this complication. So in less than two weeks I have to have surgery to correct this less than 1% chance this will happen, we hardly ever see it, you should be fine, problems.

In the span of less than 24 hours I went from thinking I was fine to having a surgery scheduled…talk about throwing us for a loop!

I'm not too excited about this. (understatement) But I am thankful we found it. I am thankful I am surrounded by so many people who can help during the weeks that I can't lift Kaylee. I was told that I should have had pain. I am thankful that I haven't. There are so many other things that could have gone wrong in association with this and none of them have happened. Obviously this is a huge financial burden we were not expecting, but we are blessed to be teaching a class that will cover most of the cost. That money was going to go to something else, but I am thankful that even before we knew about this problem the class was in the works.

God is so faithful, and even though it seems that it would have been easier for Him to never allow this complication to happen, we know that He will carry us through.

This 'occurrence' was not the fault of the doctor. In fact, I completely and fully trust the practice that I go to. (That's why I go there…) They were able to see me right away with no run-a-rounds with scheduling. I pray everything will continue to go smoothly and very soon this will just be another thing in the past.

BlahBlahBlah

So I'm having one of those blahblahblah days. I feel like this post-baby weight is never, evah going to go away. It's been hot, which makes that extra weight all the more annoying as I try to cram myself into shorts (EEKS-only around the house, of course).

Due to a dead bird in our pool we couldn't even go outside today. (If the pool is out Kaylee will be in it…she would not like the idea of a dirty, dead bird in it, but her love of her pool might, in a slip of two-year-old judgment, get in. Thus, the reason we didn't even go outside today. ) YUCK!! It's on the schedule tomorrow to remove the bird, empty the water, sanitize the pool and refill…I just simply couldn't find the energy to clean it today. I've been pretty tired lately, most likely due to the weather getting hot, so much rain, etc., that doing more than I absolutely have to is hard.

I sit and play with the kids, wishing I had more energy to do even more. I'm just getting by right now. But the kids seem a little more tired too. We have been playing with Play-Dough, coloring, playing with the bouncy ball…so it's not like I've been totally sitting around in a dazed, drooling and eating chocolate, ahem, staring off into space.

Hopefully soon we'll all be adjusted to the heat and back playing full train speed ahead.

Finger Lickin' Good

We finally made it to the strawberry patch this season. My mom (Maga) and Adam's mom (Mimi) also went along. We had to wait for almost 30 minutes to get a row, so that time was spent picking and twirling flowers. I'm pretty sure that Kaylee's favorite part of the day was the short tractor ride from the main building to the patch across the street. Last year she was really into picking the berries, this year that was short lived. Instead, she had fun running from person to person, and eating what she could.

I didn't pick too much either because my hands weren't doing so well, so I followed everyone around and took pictures.

We had a good time, and although it might be as cheap and possibly easier to pick up strawberries at Costco we want the kids to have the experience of seeing where they grow and being able to help pick them. More fruit picking to come: blueberries, blackberries, peaches, and apples.
